Released in the United Kingdom as F-Beat ZL 70946, and in the United States as Columbia JC40173, some songs have a Country feel, reflecting his interest in. King Of America - Elvis Costello. Billed as The Costello Show, king of America, is Elvis Costello's Americana album. Costello had tried to capture an authentic stateside sound on his country covers LP, almost blue, but where as that album sounded forced and phony, king of America, sounds real and lived in. It features probably Costello's best collection of songs since, imperial bedroom, and they're all delivered in a U. countrybluesfolk hybrid. Listen free to The Costello Show King of America. The Costello Show was yet another pseudonym for Declan McManus, perhaps better known as Elvis Costello. This pseud only lasted for one album, the country-flavored King of America, which was his second foray into country music Almost Blue had included mostly country songs. This was released around the same time that Costello toured with T-Bone Burnett, as The Coward Brothers, yet another country pseudonym. View wiki. Tracklist Masquer Crédits. King Of America. Costello literally took on the album as a return to roots, billing himself by his given name Declan MacManus and replacing the Attractions with a bunch of L. session men although his old band appears on one cut, who give the album a rootsy but sleek veneer that sounds remarkably charged after the polished affectations of his LangerWinstanley productions. And not only does the music sound alive, but so do his songs, arguably his best overall set since Trust. Elvis Costello - King Of America - LP Vinyl. I certainly do not own a better album. King of America: 'She said that she'd been working for the ABC News, It was as much of the alphabet as she new how to use, Her perfume was unspeakable, it lingered in the air, Like her artificial laughter, her mementos of affairs. American without Tears GI bride song: 'By a bicycle factory as they sounded the siren And returned into the dance hall she knew he was the one Though he wasn't tall or handsome she laughed when he told her I&a. As requested I take a look at Elvis Costello's 10th Studio Album King Of Amercia, for many this is a high water mark in his career, others say it was of America 1986. Album by The Costello Show. was covered in. Brilliant Mistake He Thought He Was the King of America by Eggshell Boy 2015. The Big Light by The Costello Show feat. The Attractions and The Confederates. The Big Light by Johnny Cash 1987. Elvis Costellos got it bad. On King of America, the chorus of the first song sets the rueful tone: I was a fine idea at the timeNow Im a brilliant mistake. Elvis isnt exactly known for his sunny disposition, but here he sounds bruised and broken - not beaten but definitely down for the count, even his melodious eloquence numbed by pain. But their more relaxed, folksy pace puts pressure on Costello the singer without a pumping beat behind him, Elvis gets bogged down. In the end this album just exudes righteous suffering from every pore - even the jokes are at the authors expense
