This was an obscure underground track , mainly found on rare mix tapes, very sought after even when it came out.An important pieces of bass & bleep that keeps going up in price. This sort of music has such a short life in UK 1990-1991 then gone. Track 2 B side is the best , dark synths moody wow I still love on in 2018 ! My copy has been with me since release, and I am letting go :(

At the time (and later on in years) this 12" should have been called, 'I am UNTITLED' !!! Back then my friend had this white label and I absolutely loved it! Still do!But it took me years to track this down!I bought the other 12" by Marine Boy (Eternal STK) expecting it to be the one but upon hearing it I was so upset and pissed off I nearly cried!!!It contained the "I am eternal" sample BUT none of the synths that reminded me of Man Parrish-Hip Hop Be Bop!I still (ironically) do not own this BUT in a week or two I shall!Great track! ;)

Thanks Simon. It's a shame you didn't hear it as JP sounded particularly excited about it. For me, "Marine Boy" has become one of the highlights of his programmes I listened to during my 'bedroom martyr' years. I think I have a copy of that show (or at least your track and JPs comments) on cassette if you'd like a copy of it for prosperity. Let me know. So, to finally clarify, what did you call yourself on this EP? and can you update the Discogs tracklisting for the anal among us! P.S. Can you direct me to any other similar releases you were involved in?

On BBC Radio One's John Peel Show of 12th January 1991, John played a track from this EP. He said the following after playing one of the tracks: "Well I'll tell you something, this record's a bit of a puzzle and no mistake. I can't even tell you who the artist is. There's a sticker on the sleeve (it's a white label) which says 'Perception Records' and that's all, then it says 'Laura Laura and Marine Boy. 3 tracks. Produced by Congress. Written by Simon Power.' Then there's a nice note from Simon on Moles Club compliment slip from Bath and it says 'I hope you like these two new twelve inches I've produced with the help of my best mates Paul and Andy of Bristol Bassline. The Perception E.P. [this one] features three tracks: Side One, the Twin Peaks influenced 'Small Town Killer' and 'Laura Laura'; Side Two the ambient star... and so it goes on, but the nothing about Marine Boy?" John then moves on. I hope this will help clarify something about this mysterious E.P. [I think he played 'Small Town Killer' a fantastic ambient track!].

Great stuff, dr303. I had no idea it made it onto that show. Thanks! I have digital versions of all these tracks. Happy to send whatever you want. I have kept some on vinyl, too. Just as a reminder of all the fun we had making those records. The Marine Boy track appeared on a nature programme on TV, which was the reason I turned to making music for media. And I'm still slogging away at it all these years later! Thanks so much for your post. ;-)

Simon, you'll be pleased to hear that the A side (Marine Boy) was also played by Colin Dale on his Outer Limits Kiss 100 show out of London in the summer of 1991. I know this as I taped the track at the time (Colin mentions Simon Power & Congress on a mysterious white label - that's it - no titles or label) then I spent the best part of 2 decades trying to find a copy with only that information. Discogs/YouTube came up trumps when I re-discovered my tapes last month. Immediate purchase ! It's a great, great track. Way ahead of its time.
