The Line, the Cross and the Curve is a 1993 British musical short film directed by and starring singer Kate Bush, co-starring Miranda Richardson and choreographer Lindsay Kemp, who had served as dance mentor to Bush early in her career. This short film is essentially an extended music video featuring songs from Bush's 1993 album, The Red Shoes, which in turn was inspired by the classic movie musical-fantasy The Red Shoes. The cursed shoes dance beautifully, but endlessly. The singer is drawn irresistibly into the fey world beyond the mirror, where she must redeem three magic symbols from the mysterious. Every time I watch this short film companion to The Red Shoes I wonder if Kate was hitting the water bong again as I believe I read once that she was a fan of the herb back in the day. This is one strange video. It has the ability to actually make the viewer feel weird while watching it, it's hard to describe but it makes you feel uneasy and unsettled. In 1985, Kate Bush was planning to make a movie based on The Ninth Wave, the second part of her brilliant Hounds of Love album. It never came to fruition. The Kate Inside features more than 300 images most of them unseen including outtakes, contact sheets, Polaroids, and handwritten notes to Harari from Bush during that period.
