Re-emerging with a much more original sound after their 1990 house album, Kirk and Mallinder for the most part rely on abstract electro-inspired ambient-techno with extended voice-over samples for Plasticity. I guess it is the right time to start to believe in god and ask him if he could force someone to make a repress of it in order to break this incredibly shit price!
Another remarkably dramatic shift in style for RHK and from the sounds of it the end of CV as it existed for the previous decade. From the noise experiments and postpunk of early CV, to electro-funk and house of later CV, to acid house of Sweet Exorcist, and now ambient techno that would define RHK's activity in the 90s. This sound would later be perfected on releases including 'Virtual State', 'The Conversation', and 'Intensely Radioactive' before RHK would transform his sound again and again in the late 90s/early 00s with the noisier techno of albums like 'Neurometrik' and 'Loopstatic', the dub of 'Chant to Jah', the ambient of 'Here and Elesewhere', the aural assaults of 'TWAT' and 'Aural Illusions' and... Standout track for me is 'Low Cool' but it is rather easy to love this whole record.
Opening documentary / interview with gangsters taken from the 1992 documentary called “My Crasy Life” about the Samoan gangs is Long Beach. It’s been uploaded on YT and you can hear what “Low Cool” sampled about 21 minutes into this documentary.
Thanks for this. I got lost in this documentary, having listened to this track so many times. Interesting to see the interviews minus the music.
Thank you so much for this info. I bought this record in 1992, and I have been trying to figure out where those samples come from ever since -- you've made my day!
One of the most enjoyable Lp's that they ever released.Although it has little in common with their early periodof work it demonstrates that Richard H. Kirk has alwaysbeen at the forefront of cutting edge contemporary modernelectronic dance music. Brilliantly executed and producedall they way through.
