Basia Bulat was virtually unknown when she issued her debut album in 2007, and this follow-up effort released after two years of heavy touring paints her as a more self-assured, worldly songwriter. The shaking quality of her voice has been molded into a quick, informal vibrato, and producer Howard Bilerman - the same man who produced 2007s Oh, My Darling - decorates her songs with rootsy arrangements, the most ornate of which feature percussion, multiple stringed instruments, horns, and piano. Heart of My Own is the second full-length album by Canadian singer-songwriter Basia Bulat, released on January 26, 2010, on Secret City Records. The tracks Gold Rush and Run were released as singles to promote the album. Songs in album Basia Bulat - Heart of My Own 2010. Basia Bulat - Go On. Basia Bulat - Run. Basia Bulat - Sugar And Spice. Toronto native Basia Bulat won some deserved attention, including a Polaris prize nomination and a spot on the idiosyncratic Rough Trade roster, with her 2007 debut LP, Oh My Darling. Stylistically diverse- almost to a fault- the record proved Bulat to be as comfortable with lilting waltz-time folk as jazz-cadenced pop as licensable indie catnip. Unfortunately, Heart's production isn't always successful. Bulat seems out of breath competing with the brute-forced keyboards of Walk You Down. And despite all the ace moments in Gold Rush, what sounds like a choir's ah ah ah ahs that sneak in on the song's bridge sound stolen from Arcade Fire's Funeral sessions. With a heart of my own Burn it down low The light in your verse And the shadow between The way that I was when I used to roam. Back home What do I hold For the maid or the mother I'll be If only the loom and a thread will hold It is work too but as that I hear it Tomorrow I'll mend it The empty bones. I wrote on these walls A simple charm To keep the wounds at bay Gave of a heart The strength of my arms To hold you close and safe. But I kept my eyes closed I'll never know Where the shadows are these days I stood in the room of a house divided. Genre: to Heart Of My Own by Basia Bulat - a new album release date: January 26, 2010 New Releases Now. The instrumentation on Heart of My Own is a lot more varied than Oh, My Darling, notes Basia. I think it is at times extremely sparse and, well, spacious, with big choirs singing, and then it gets really dense with really spirited and rolling drums, and I think I even managed to pull off a Johnny Cash-inspired country song. Basia Bulat, the Canadian singersongwriter who debuted in 2007 with a very successful Oh, My Darling, delivered a vigorous sophomore full-length this past week. Bulats Heart of My Own is an incredible, instrumentally varied record that beats with the full force of her hearty vibrato. Among the intricately orchestrated tracks are traces of Celtic folk in the violin, bumpkin in the banjos, and a number of noted vocalists in Bulats exceptional cords. Her voice is the thickness of Amy Winehouse, the sensitivity of Feist, the power-poetry of Ani DiFranco see Sparrow , and the vocal quirkiness
